Skin Care Journey By- u/AnxiousLayer1328
Hey everyone!
If you’re like me and deal with combo skin that’s oily, acne-prone, and comedone-prone, you know how challenging it can be to find the right routine. Over the years, I’ve tried countless products—some hits, some misses—but I’m finally getting closer to a system that works for me. Here’s my current skincare routine, along with a bit of my experience and the results I’m seeing.
Morning Routine (AM)
- Cleanser:
I use the Fash Foam Cleanser (dermatologist-prescribed).- The truth: I’m not a fan. It doesn’t wash off easily, which can be frustrating in the morning rush, but I’m sticking to it because my dermatologist recommended it.
- Lesson learned: Sometimes, you have to trust the process when working with a professional.
- Serum:
I recently introduced the Deconstruct Vitamin C Serum to my routine.- It’s too early to comment on the results, but I’m hopeful it’ll brighten my skin and fade those stubborn acne scars.
- Moisturizer (Optional):
The Dot & Key Vitamin C + E Moisturizer is my go-to for a radiant glow.- When I skip this step, my skin feels fine, but when I include it, the glow is real!
- Sunscreen:
I switch between these depending on the situation:- UV Doux Sunscreen or Deconstruct SPF 55 Sunscreen (for outdoors).
- Dermaco C-Cinamide Sunscreen (for indoors).
- Why multiple sunscreens? Different textures and formulations suit different environments.
- Lip Balm:
Foxtale Lip Balm is a staple for me. It stays put until I eat, and my lips stay hydrated and smooth.
Evening Routine (PM)
- Makeup Remover:
Garnier Micellar Water is my holy grail.- It effectively removes makeup and sunscreen without irritating my skin.
- Cleanser:
I use the Simple Micellar Gel Face Wash in the evening.- This one’s better than the green refreshing version because it washes off quickly and doesn’t leave residue.
- Treatment Products:
These two dermatologist-prescribed products have been game-changers for my acne:- Clindac (Clindamycin Phosphate 1% Gel):
- Works wonders in reducing comedones and controlling acne.
- Benzac AC (Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% Gel):
- Targets active acne and clears it up effectively.
- Clindac (Clindamycin Phosphate 1% Gel):
- Moisturizers:
- Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel (on my forehead):
- Lightweight and perfect for this area, which tends to react to heavier creams.
- Foxtale Ceramide Supercream Moisturizer (for the rest of my face):
- Provides hydration, but I’ve noticed it causes comedones on my forehead. I’ve adapted by using it only on areas that can handle it well.
- Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel (on my forehead):
- Lip Care:
I finish with Boroline on my lips.- It’s budget-friendly, effective, and has been my go-to for deeply nourishing my lips.
What I’ve Learned So Far
- Listen to your skin: Each area of my face has different needs, so I tailor my routine accordingly.
- Don’t give up on professional advice: While some products (like the Fash Foam Cleanser) aren’t my favorite, trusting my dermatologist’s expertise has paid off.
- Experiment with care: Not every product will suit every part of your face. Adjustments, like using different moisturizers for different areas, can make all the difference.
- Affordable doesn’t mean ineffective: Boroline and Garnier Micellar Water are proof that you don’t need to spend a fortune to get great results.
Takeaway
Skincare is a journey. What works for me might not work for you, but sharing our experiences can help us all find better solutions. If you have oily, acne-prone, or combo skin, I hope my routine inspires you to try new things while listening to your skin’s needs.

Remember: Always consult with a dermatologist for persistent skin concerns and introduce new products gradually.
