My Skincare Journey: Finding What Works for Acne-Prone Skin

Skincare Journey By- Feisty_Revolution176

Skincare is a deeply personal journey, and for those with acne-prone skin, it often feels like an endless cycle of trial and error. Over the years, I have experimented with numerous products, routines, and treatments, but hydration remains the one thing that has consistently improved my skin. While I still struggle with acne marks, I have found a routine that works for me, balancing active ingredients with soothing, hydrating formulas.

Morning Routine: A Fresh Start

My morning skincare routine is designed to cleanse, brighten, and protect my skin. Since my skin is prone to breakouts, I focus on lightweight yet effective ingredients.

  1. Cleanser: Haru Haru Face Wash – A gentle start to remove impurities without stripping moisture.
  2. Active Ingredients:
    • Vitamin C for antioxidant protection and brightening.
    • Minimalist Alpha Arbutin & Niacinamide to help with pigmentation and barrier support (used on alternate days).
    • Beauty of Joseon (BoJ) Glow Serum for extra radiance (alternating with Alpha Arbutin & Niacinamide).
  3. Moisturizer & Sunscreen: I rotate between La Roche-Posay, FormulaRX Lightweight Lotion, and Ponds Gel, depending on my skin’s hydration needs. Sunscreen is a must, ensuring my skin stays protected throughout the day.

Night Routine: Repair and Hydration

My nighttime routine is where I incorporate treatments and deeper hydration. Exfoliation and masks play a significant role, followed by skin-repairing ingredients.

  1. Cleansing: I use a gentle face wash to remove dirt and oil buildup from the day.
  2. Masking (Three times a week):
    • Foxtale Purple Clay Mask – Helps control excess oil and refine pores.
    • BoJ Red Bean Face Mask – Gently exfoliates while providing hydration.
    • The Ordinary’s Peeling Solution – A stronger exfoliant for a deeper reset (used once a week).
  3. Hydration & Active Ingredients (Alternating Days):
    • Snail Mucin for soothing and barrier repair.
    • Niacinamide & Hyaluronic Acid for hydration and oil control.
    • Salicylic Acid to target acne and prevent breakouts.
  4. Moisturizer: I switch between lightweight and rich moisturizers, depending on how my skin feels.

The Struggle with Acne Marks

Despite following a structured routine, my skin is far from perfect. Acne marks linger, and while I haven’t found a miracle cure, hydration-based products have made a noticeable difference. Keeping my skin well-moisturized has improved its texture and reduced irritation.

Final Thoughts: What I’ve Learned

  • Hydration is key. No matter what actives I use, my skin looks and feels better when it’s properly hydrated.
  • Patience is crucial. Skin takes time to heal, and no product delivers instant results.
  • Not every product works. I’ve tried various high-end and Korean skincare brands, but only a few truly stand out.

My skincare journey is still ongoing, but for now, this routine keeps my skin balanced and healthy. If you also struggle with acne marks, focusing on hydration might be the missing piece in your routine.
